Linda making a wish with the stones on Ventura BeachGreat Time in California
by Linda Dolecki

I just returned from a magnificent trip to the west coast.  It was short, but we did a lot.  We arrived in Los Angeles airport on Delta Airlines and everything went smooth.  As an FYI, for long Delta flights, Delta now offers TV per seat at no charge, unless you want to pay for a movie.  They offer all kinds of cable stations, ESPN, TNT, TBS, Nickelodeon to mentions a few.  We started our trip visiting family in Castaic, California.  We have been to most attractions in the Los Angeles area, Disney Land, Universal Studio, Busch Gardens, just to mention a few.  So we decided to go see the surfers at Ventura Beach.

The weather was perfect, about 10 degrees cooler than the Los Angeles area, which was nice since it was 95 in LA.  Ventura Beach has a great walking trail that goes on for miles, so we got to see lots of water and beautiful scenery.

Lake Castaic, Surfers at Ventura Beach, View of San Rafael Mountains in Santa Barbara
San Diego Bay – Pirates Ships We then drove toward Santa Barbara and stopped at a few scenic view areas to gaze at the breathing mountains.  I have been to California over a dozen times and never have seen such sights.    We than decided to go to a town called Solvang.   In 1911 the founding of Solvang (sunny field in Danish), a 9000+ acre enclave in the verdant Santa Ynez Valley just 125 miles north of Los Angeles. Throughout 2011, Solvang, known as the "Danish Capital of America" and recognized as a "Preserve America" city is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a series of special events and activities.  This is a must see area to visit.

The next day we drove to San Diego to go to a wedding on the beach.  San Diego is another area that has lots to do.  Unfortunately, we were not able to do much this trip but in the past we went to the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Safari Park and walked the pier with lots of shops and boating activities.  There is also SeaWorld, Lego Land, air & space museum and a pirate ship dinner cruise that is on the list to see on our next visit.  California has so much to offer you have to keep going back for more.    I will be going back again next May to attend my son’s wedding in the Riverside are, which is near Ontario California and will give another report on the exciting adventures in that area.
