Jamaican Me Crazy

Christine's office party this year was a trip to Jamaica with the whole staff. Over the years I have had the pleasure of traveling with the Classic Travel gang to London, Orlando and Las Vegas.
Our flight arrived on time in sunny Jamaica. Welcome to Jamaica, mon! We grabbed our bags and were greeted by our driver; I love arriving in a foreign country and seeing
your name on a placard and knowing your transfer to your hotel waits. Along with a few others from the Classic Travel office, we headed east down the two lane highway that hugs the ocean shoreline. Because Jamaicans drive on the left side of the road, it takes a little getting use to, especially when crossing the streets as a pedestrian. When we arrived at the Sunset Jamaica Grande resort in Ocho Rios, we were met by Tom and Joy, and the rest of the gang already at the resort.
Our room was on the 8 th floor with a spectacular view of the pools, gazebo, mountains and the blue green ocean. Across the bay was the port where cruise ships were docked.
Our group of 12 was meeting for dinner at the La Diva Italian restaurant at 7 p.m., which was just enough time to un-pack, freshen up and relax. I headed downstairs early to meet the group for dinner and by the time the waiter had our wine order, my wife Christine made her grand entrance in a brightly colored green, orange and powder blue dress refreshed from the day's journey. The meal was excellent and after dinner we headed upstairs for live music and dancing.
The stage had the back drop of the enormous pool, palm trees, gazebo and ocean in the background. The palms were illuminated with white, green and red Christmas lights, which lined the pool area and along the promenade down towards the gazebo. The sky was clear and full of stars and very bright moonbeams illuminated the ocean bay. The music great and the beat was hard to resist—also the staffers at Classic are not shy about bust'n a move. I picked up a new move from Dani & Liz, apparently the fish hooked on a line is the newest move, but after about ten hook and releases I was ready to call it a night.
We spent most of the daylight hours poolside with an occasional dip into the ocean. The Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort has a very large stretch of beach, one of the longest in Ocho Rios. They provide free sail boats, kayaks, water tricycles, large floating foam rings and also have a giant floating trampoline anchored in the bay. We even had fun on the sixty foot long winding water slide! The beaches are clean and the sand is raked by hand daily. The ocean water was crystal clear and extremely warm.

Part of our group had gone to Dunns River Falls the day before, so we ventured into the town of Ocho Rios for a bit of shopping at the handicraft markets. It is not unusual to be approached by local Jamaicans as they are eager to sell their wares to the tourists. We always enjoy some good conversation with the locals too!
We visited the world-famous Wassi Art Pottery Works (even Oprah owns some!) and had a fantastic grilled lobster lunch at a cute place called the Spring Garden. Then we returned to our all-inclusive resort and gorged ourselves on the dessert buffet. It was decadent but we really knew we were on vacation then!
There is never enough time to see and do everything when you travel to a new destination. I always I do know a trip prepared by the gang at Classic Travel will always be very fulfilling and memorable. When ever I travel, I always walk away knowing some much more about the world and being humbled by that knowledge.
Give Classic Travel a call for your next journey of a life time.
