Bill and Jean Southwick in MexicoA Great Trip to Mexico!
by Jean Southwick

My husband I had a wonderful four days this past April in the Mayan Riviera area of Mexico.  We stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach (between the Cancun Airport and Playa del Carmen).  It was my husband’s first visit to Mexico and he had the time of his life!  While I was attending a Funjet Conference and taking in site inspections Bill was able to spend some time swimming with dolphins, relaxing on the beach, and playing golf at the 18hole golf Course at the Iberostar Resort.

The Iberostar Paraiso Beach is part of a very large Iberostar complex which includes the Grand, Lindo, and Maya. We stayed in a standard room which is a Jr. Suite at the Paraiso Beach, 2 queen beds and a day bed. We were about a minute walk from the beach but about ten minutes from the lobby and most of the restaurants. The resort is very spread out and there are trolleys and golf carts circling the resort.  The Iberostar staff was cheerful, helpful and happy to help answer all of my questions with a smile. When booking the hotel be sure to request your room near either the beach or the restaurants. Requests cannot be guaranteed but the resort will certainly try to fulfill requests if possible.

Around The Iberostar Paraiso Beach

While on your vacation you can choose to do nothing at all or you can take advantage of all the amazing sites and activities that are available.  Lomas Travel, the ground operator for Funjet Vacations is very reliable, knowledgeable and a joy to work with.  Lomas offers everything from private airport transfers, weddings, swimming with dolphins, snorkel trips, day tours to the Mayan ruins, deep sea fishing, zip lining, horseback riding, scuba diving, and even camel riding!  Our office can pre book many of the excursions for you or if you prefer Lomas has a tour desk at most resorts and you can book your tours on site.

Bill Swimming with the DolphinsBill’s recommendation from his Swimming with the Dolphins experience is to take your credit card or lots of cash as you will want to purchase a picture or two (at $25 each), or buy DVD movie of your dolphin experience for $159. It’s about a 40 minute ride from the hotel and the cost is $129 which includes the transportation and you spend about 45 minutes the dolphins.

The Iberostar P.B. Dye Golf Course is only a five minute walk from the resort lobby or you can get a ride on a golf cart.  The hotel concierge can arrange your tee time or do as Bill did and just walk up to the club house.  He rented golf clubs, bought a few golf balls, paid for the cart rental and played 18 holes for about $200.

Beautiful beaches of MexicoOur time in Mexico came to an end way too soon.  We arrived home well rested, well fed, and confident that Mexico is still one of the best vacation experiences that you could have.  Based on the 2010 visitor figurers to Mexico, the Funjet conference slogan of “22.5 million people can’t be wrong” is so true!  It tells you something when 97% of visitors polled when exiting Mexico say they will come back!
