Kid Friendly Mexico?

by Joy Thurn

There are some wonderful, kid friendly areas and hotels in Mexico.

I escort groups worldwide so I have had the opportunity to experience resorts with families and can provide first hand advise.

The Riviera Maya, the coast South of Cancun which is be developed all the way to Belize, offers wonderful beaches and resorts as well as historical, cultural Mayan sites including Xcaret, rated one of the best sightseeing attractions in Mexico and the Caribbean. The Occidental Grand Xcaret resort is attached to the park and includes free admission if you stay at this property.

Most of the resorts in this area are all inclusive. Hotel, meals, beverages, tips, taxes, non motorized water sports and kids clubs.

One of the issues for families who have more that 2 children are resorts that allow 5 or more in one room.  Here is a list of some of my personal favorites for families with 5 or more as well as under 5 person families:  Dreams Tulum, Grand Palladium,  Sandos Caracol Beach and Sandos Playacar.  It is advisable to use a travel agent that has experience with this destination to get the best resort and value.

Puerto Vallarta is a destination I especially like because of the topography, friendliness, downtown area and sunsets.  The newest area, Riviera Nayarit, has the best beach and good resorts. The Marival Resort is especially popular with families as it offers 1,2 and 3 bedroom units. The Mismaloya area, made popular when Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor started their love affair during the filming of “Night of the Iguana”,  is stunningly beautiful.
The Barcelo La Jolla de Mismaloya has one and two bedroom units. These resorts are also all inclusive.

I recently fell in love with Los Cabos, it is like Tucson Arizona with a beach. Very desert like, lovely topography great food and shopping. I like the Riu Santa Fe for families, an all inclusive resort. Dreams Los Cabos has 2 bedroom units for larger families.

Mexico can often be less expensive in Late spring and summer than on shore vacation spots and certainly  more educational and relaxing.

I can almost guarantee that a Mexico all inclusive family vacation will be much less expensive than a Disney trip and absolutely more relaxing and fun for the parents, sorry Walt.
