FOREVER CHANGING
LAS VEGAS
By: Molly Brunette

Have you been to Las Vegas lately? You would not believe the changes that have occurred in the last few years alone! This was my first trip out there in almost six years and I hardly recognized it.

I stayed at Bally's which is almost in the center of all the action on the strip. From Bally's you can hop on a tram that takes you right to the MGM Grand. This hotel is considered one of the largest in the world and I will not dispute that claim - it is enormous. One of the nicest improvements I noticed was how easy it is to get from one property to another.

Another change is there are more hotels than I can keep track of. Among the "newer" properties are the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, the Venetian and Paris. The themes of these hotels are obvious but you really have to see these hotels for yourself - they are incredible! It seems that in Las Vegas you either tear down an old hotel and build a new one or extensively remodel to keep up with the competition. The Flamingo Hilton and Harrah's are two properties that did multi-million dollar renovations. The results are impressive. Caesar's Palace has added on a new wing and expanded their wonderful shopping mall, the Forum. The Aladdin is all new - if you haven't seen it recently, you haven't seen it at all!

Las Vegas is still the place for big name entertainment and shows. Don't miss Cirque de Soleil's "Mystere" at Treasure Island and their production of "O" at Bellagio. Also worth seeing is Danny Gans at the Mirage and Siegfried and Roy, also at the Mirage. For a traditional Las Vegas style show, a must see is "Jubilee" at Bally's for the best showgirls, according to a local newspaper poll. Do you like free entertainment? Stop by Treasure Island to see a pirate fight, watch acrobatic shows in the courtyard at Harrah's, see a volcano erupt at The Mirage or catch one of the acts at Circus Circus.

Are you a golfer? Las Vegas has several spectacular courses to challenge you. Do you have a sweet tooth? Check out the tour of Ethel M Chocolates. Do you like a good laugh? There are numerous comedy clubs to choose from. There is also Hoover Dam nearby and the Grand Canyon can be done in a day. There is always something to do in Las Vegas - even if you don't gamble! Take a trip out there and see for yourself.
